Sharing the subtleties of the spiritual life  through reflections on Catholic spirituality, prayer, and motherhood

Allison Auth

Hi, I'm Allison

I am a wife, mother of 5, writer, and homeschooler who lives in Denver. As a lifelong Catholic, I write about Catholic spirituality, prayer, discernment, motherhood, and occasionally homeschooling.

My husband is a woodworker and builder of beautiful things, and I aspire to build beautiful ideas out of words that reflect the truth and beauty of God. I am always looking at the interplay between faith and creation, contemplating how our vocations make us holy and how God is speaking to us in every day life.

I am the author of two books and many online articles. Scroll down see more!

Ineffable: Learning to Love the God Beyond Words

You are invited to partake in the greatest love story of all time: intimate union with the Divine Bridegroom.  Drawing from her own lived experience, Allison reflects on how our relationship with God mirrors that of a marriage, where we learn to let Him speak to our hearts and engage in a mutual gift of everlasting love, even as we endure weariness, stress, and painful seasons.

In these pages, you will discover:

  • Honest, real-life stories that reveal the power of prayer
  • Practical methods for rekindling your love for God
  • Guidance for navigating spiritual dryness, discouragement, and desolation
  • Wisdom drawn from the saints and contemporary spiritual writers
  • A deeper way to pray the Our Father with your whole heart
  • Lectio Divina experienced as a true spiritual feast
  • How to recognize God's voice and reject the lies of the enemy
  • Powerful ways the Holy Spirit deepens our prayer through Sacred Scripture

Holiness is saying "I love you" again and again, even amid challenges of faith and strained relationships. Even when words fail us, we can communicate in the language of God in silence and contemplation.

The Lord is waiting for you to let Him love you and to love Him in return. When you open your heart to this adventure, you will begin to experience the ineffable joy of nuptial union with Almighty God.

“When a writer is able to take the most sublime and mysterious realities and wrap them in words that reveal, clarify, and compel, she surely is participating in the ongoing mission of the Word Himself.

Relatable stories and solid spiritual theology? Yes, please! Ineffable is perfect not only for adoration and personal prayer but also for the mom’s group or book club that wants something of real substance to pray with and discuss.”

“To describe the life of prayer, you must cultivate genuine curiosity about what God is doing and then be honest with what you find. In Ineffable, Allison Auth has done just this. In keeping with our precious tradition of saints and mystics, seekers and strivers, she has shared her heart, and -- in doing so -- shared something of the Lord's heart for us.”

“Allison Auth has written a beautiful and faithful book for Catholics who long to grow closer to God in prayer. With warmth and honesty, she helps readers enter more deeply into the mystery of a God who speaks, listens, heals, and draws us into communion with Him.

Rooted in Scripture, the saints, the Catechism, and the real challenges of daily life, this book is a gift for anyone who wants prayer to become less of an obligation and more of a relationship of love. She highlights that the realities of marriage and family life are not an obstacle to a deep spiritual life, but actually an invitation to intimacy with an ineffable God.

"Just as moms of toddlers cut hot dogs and grapes into appropriate bite sized pieces for their kids at lunch time, Allison Auth offers a similar spread of satisfying spiritual nourishment for busy moms who desire to feast at the table of prayer.  She reveals that conversation –and even contemplation--with God can become as natural as breathing. For moms who are regularly told “you’ve got your hands full,” Ineffable: Learning to Love the God Beyond Words offers a place to put it all down, to finally be held and behold the gaze of the One who seeks to fill your heart with His love and presence."

"I received Baby and Beyond as a gift after my second daughter was born and wish I'd read it after I had my first. It would have been such a gift during my early struggles when I became a mom. Somehow, Allison manages to be both encouraging and honest (a balance that can be difficult to strike!). It's a must-read for Catholic moms, but any mom could benefit from reading it. It'll be my go-to baby shower gift from now on!"

After reading Allison's book, Baby and Beyond, all I could think was where was this book six kids ago? My first four post-partum experiences were textbook fantastic, and then babies five and six came along. I kept thinking I should've had it figured out by then, but I didn't. For any mom who feels overwhelmed, less-than, stressed or anxious about all the new changes and challenges that come with new life, gift her this book. You can thank me later. Brava, Allison, on writing the book we didn't know we needed!
